UT3 is dead

Unreal Tournament 3 is a dead game. I hate to say it but it's true. There are still servers up but they are empty most of the time. And whose fault is it? The mapper's together with noob's.
A game that has this much potential should not be treated this way. Some mappers create ugly box maps with a maximum amount of spam where the only thing you have to do is run forward, shot rockets and hope for the best. Noobs keep voting these maps because they are:
1. small in size and thus download friendly
2. made for spam, this means easy kills with no skill

(I was playing with my alter ego there, DonkeyKong is not my real player alias ;))

But UT3 is not Counter Strike. It's not a sit and shot, pointy-clicky game. You are able to use vehicles and people can use their hoverboards to grapple them. This allows fast-paced teamplay actions for nice and elegant flagruns.

(although the video is on my channel, I didn't make it, but I am the taxi driver)

This scene happened in a clanwar between two top clans: _Dark_ and Prototype. And even though I'm not in one of them, I played because of lack of players for _Dark_... As I said, the game is dead.

  2. It'd be a shame to see a game like Unreal Tournament die that's for sure, not that I play it mind, I have played some of the older ones though. Good luck with the blog though, and good luck with the games.

  8. UT games used to be good a few years ago. Now it's time for CoD and BF series

  9. Most games have problems like that these days, the noob part, that is. Before, games were hard and you needed skill. Today, game studios make easier games so they can sell them to a wider audience... makes a gamer sad.

  10. What makes this worse is that it's the most recent version too.

  11. Oooh you are bunch of snivellers.

Some Guy - You never played and now "Hmm it's a game I've always wanted to play, guess there's really no point now it's dead" it is not death yet there is atleast one hardcore fan (me) and I am not only one.

Also about mappers and content makers community. There is TKBS, Rattle, me (XD) and much more people.

VCTF-Accursed is new, VehicleIslands should be released in 2-3 months(maybe soonere idk) and it is fun to play Shoebox somewhen.

The gameplay is genious (I like it), I don't know why people should leave because they don't like Shoebox. I know it gets enough of votes but there are servers where it is not played all the time.

  12. It is true that the people who play are usually the addicted ones. They play on a regular basis. But what are 20-30 constant vCTF players on ALL SERVERS TOGETHER!!! at all? Nothing much in comparison to sit-and-shot CoD and Battlefield.

Out of the "mappers" you mentioned, it is only TKBS. You didn't publish a single map yet and Rattle doesn't map, he only codes scripts and mutators. And I fear your map will be a spawnkilling and spam map, too :/

Shoebox is not fun at all. All there is to do is spawnkill as many players as you can, rape them with the tank (no chance of survival), because when I am in the tank I usually have it the whole match and my K:D ratio is usually about 90:1 which is fun to the guy in the tank, to the others: not in the slightest.

  13. I used word content makers. About my map. If you have suugestions post them to my thread. There are multiple spawn places andthe map is bigger than Suspense.

  17. Main thing is that when ut3 was released multiplayer was really buggy. Players had to reconnect after switching map, no download for custom maps and no map vote. That make most of players left. Moreother average filesize of maps is 4x times biggers than with ut2004. So since many players don't have highend broadband connection they just don't want to wait more than 30s to download a map... So that's why many small maps such as VCTF-Shoebox are popular. I'm just hoping for a UT4 now like UT2004 compared with UT2003.

  18. Hey Solarsys, nice to see you here, thanks for commenting. Unfortunately UT4 will come out very late, I didn't hear any planned release date yet :/

  20. "Unreal Tournament 3 is a dead game. I hate to say it but it's true. There are still servers up but they are empty most of the time. And whose fault is it?"

The fault is Epic's/Midway's. UT3 was essentially a stillborn; it was dead when it was released. It was heavily consolized, and that's primarily what killed it.

Consequently, to this day, the original UT99 has proven to be the best and most successful UT with people continuing to play UT99 to this day. It had near-perfect chemistry. UT 2004 was good for Onslaught, but the floaty-dodgeyness turned the on-foot games into hitscan only games, resulting in low player counts for CTF (today you can't even find a populated CTF server).
